Abstract

944,320. Spray producers. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. Nov. 30, 1961 [Dec. 1, 1960], No. 42846/61. Heading B2F. In an atomizing nozzle, in which a spring- loaded needle 6 displaceable axially of the nozzle and connected to a piston 9 is mounted in so as to close a central opening m of a central opening of the nozzle outlet surrounded by an annular opening n, and in which the opening stroke of the needle is effected by fluid under pressure acting on the piston, there is an elastic tubular partition 14 loosely surrounding the upper shank 6a of the needle 6 and being arranged to effectively seal a chamber conveying the material to be atomized from a chamber receiving the gas under pressure for actuation of the piston. The partition 14 makes a sealed connection with piston 9 and with member 15, and is stretched or compressed on movement of the needle 6. Medium to be sprayed enters at connection 4 to chamber a then into annular space b in the interior of bushing 3 to the outlet orifice m. Compressed air for atomization enters at connection 5, passes via chamber c to annular opening n. Compressed air, to actuate the piston and open the needle valve against the closing pressure of spring 10, enters at connection 13 and passes via opening 12 to chamber e. Adjustment of threaded stud 18 determines the extent of the backward movement of the needle and regulation of the gas pressure on the piston determines the position of the needle point relative to opening m. Inlets 11 communicate the space behind the piston to the atmosphere. One purpose of the needle is to clean the outlet orifice. Alternatively the spring 10 may be omitted and the resiliency of the partition may provide the closing force.
