Abstract

944,260. Tape dispensers. CRANE PACKING CO. Sept. 13, 1961 [Sept. 26, 1960 (2)], No. 32836/61. Heading A4G. A tape dispensing device comprises a box-like container having a hinged lid, a slot in a side wall through which the tape may be withdrawn, and a cut-off device for severing a withdrawn length of tape. The cut-off device has a base which overlies the side wall containing the slot, side flanges on the base which embrace two sides of the container one of which is the lid, an oscillatable support mounted on the base, said base having a slot through which the tape may pass, a n d co-operating tape severing means on the base and oscillatable support for severing the tape held therebetween. Fig. 2 shows a transparent walled container with a cutting device having oscillatable spring steel supports 45 and 46 and slot 47. Fig. 3 shows a section of the cutting device of Fig. 2 with flange 27, spring 43, blade support 37 and blade 39 which is pressed against the tape on anvil 42. Fig. 6 shows another form of the device with side 111 hinged at 112 and 113, and modified cutting device 120, Figs. 7, 8 and 10 show the side elevation, plan and end elevation respectively of the cutting device shown in Fig. 6, with opening 153 through which the tape passes, spring 136 which in its free state is shown as 136a, additional springs 137 and 138, blade stops 149 and 150, and upper surface 141 the forward edge of which forms the cutting edge 146 which is depressed on to the sloping edges 128 and 129 of the stationary cover 121.
