A tube 1 is cut to a desired profile C by rotating the tube and cutting it with a tool such as an oxy-acetylene torch 7 mounted on a longitudinally movable carriage 11 controlled by variable driving means. -The tube 1 is mounted on rollers 4 for rotation by a chuck 5 driven by a chain 6, and the carriage 11 runs along rails 10 and is connected with gas supply pipes 12. An upstanding pin 13 on the carriage is engaged by a slotted link 14 pivotal about a fulcrum 15 adjustable along a link 16 and engaging at its other end a pin 8 upstanding from a sleeve 18 guided for transverse movement along a guideway 17. Sleeve 18 receives a shaft 19a hinged at 20 to an arm 19b mounted at 21 for relative rotation on a reciprocable member 22 but axially fixed thereto. The member 22 is supported with adjustable eccentricity, Fig. 5 (not shown), in a cage 23 rotated by sprockets 24 driven by chains 25; the bifurcated end of this member is engaged by a pin 26 on a pair of swinging arms 27 of adjustable length pivoted at 29a and actuated through rack and quadrant gearing 30, 29 by an adjustable crank-pin 28 on a crank 32 driven by gearing 34, 35. Simultaneously, with its reciprocation by arms 27, the member 22 is rotated about the axis of cage 23. A platform 36 carrying the crank 32, rack 30 and arms 27 is hinged at 37 and may be held in an inclined position by curved side rails 47, Fig. 3 (not shown), when profiling tube ends which are to be joined to other tubes at an inclination. Graduations are provided on the crank 32, arms 27, platform rails 47 and sprockets 24 to fix the required inclination.
