Abstract

944,118. Radio receiver switch tuning arrangements. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 10, 1962, No. 30795/62. Heading H3Q. [Also in Division H1] Radio equipment has a plurality of switched circuit elements contained within a rotatable knob whereby connection is made to selected ones of the elements when the knob is rotated. In Fig. 2 two insulating circular end cheeks 2, 3 are secured on a metal boss 4 by a clamping plate 7 and a spring clip 10 respectively. Twenty crystals in tapered metal cans 11 are mounted on a ring of plastic foam 13 which is glued to brass cylinder 14. Each of the crystals has two domed silver contacts 12 which project through holes in a circular shaped insulating strip 1, the strip being secured in annular slots in the cheeks 2, 3. The knob is attached to the boss 4 by screws located in holes 17 and has a skirt which is deep enough to enclose the whole turret assembly which may include a tuning scale. Components other than crystals such as inductors, capacitors, resistors or tuned circuits could be mounted within the knob. The turret may alternatively comprise a rotatable printed circuit disc bearing against a fixed contact, and it is suggested that the switched elements could be fixed and the switch contacts rotate.
