Abstract

943,779. Aerials. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. April 17, 1962 [May 10, 1961 ; Jan. 26, 1962; Feb. 16, 1962], No. 14808/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading H4A. [Also in Division E1] The invention is concerned with the problem of strengthening a tubular housing surrounding and protecting an unspecified array of dipoles and in its broadest aspect the housing which is preferably made of laminated resin bonded glass fibre is reinforced by a plurality of rods or tubes extending along the length of the housing and positioned in relation to the elements of the array so that the horizontally uniform radiation pattern thereof is not substantially affected. The reinforcing rods or tubes which may be equally spaced around the periphery of the tubular housing (Figs. 1, 3, 7 and 8, not shown) or arranged in groups (Figs. 6 and 10, not shown), are preferably of aluminium although some of them may be made of resin bonded glass fibre. The tubular housing is further reinforced by metallic end rings (Fig. 3, not shown). Several housings may be stacked one on the other, the reinforcing rods extending throughout the assembly to act as a lightning discharge path.
