Abstract

943,747. Toy railway tracks. A. C. J. OPHERMANN. Jan. 18, 1960 [Jan. 17, 1959], No. 1715/60. Heading A6S. A track section for toy or model railways has a base 38, Fig. 1, with electrical conductors 18-21 secured therein which can be detachably electrically connected to external circuits through pins 35, 36, connecting members 37 and plugs 40, 41. Different conductors can be connected by inserting the plugs 40, 41 in different bores 39, the positions of the plugs visually indicating which conductors are connected. Couplings (not shown) at the ends of the conductors 18-21 establish electrical connection with corresponding conductors of an adjacent track section. Fig. 2a shows conductors 62-65, any one of which can be connected to a socket 68 by rotating a member 66 bearing cams 67. A pointer 69 indicates which conductor is connected. Fig. 7 shows conductors 19-23 to which connection can be made by inserting pins in sockets 50-54. The external circuits may include electrically actuated points, turntables, level crossings, signals or a lighting system or may supply traction current to the rails or overhead lines. Through the conductors, the whole of a track installation may be connected to a central control position. Track sections having no continuous conductors may be inserted in a track installation to provide isolated conductor systems, thereby increasing the number of operating possibilities. The rails may also be electrically discontinuous to allow lengths to be isolated so far as control of a train is concerned.
