A model car racing system comprises (figure 1), a track 15 with a plurality of slots 16 therein, a plurality of electrical conductors 22 each connected to a separate circuit and disposed on at least one side wall 18, 20 for conducting electrical energy to a different car, means for establishing a potential on said members, and control means to vary the potential supplied. As shown, each conductor 22 on the side walls 18, 20 of the slot is engaged by a contactor 81 with a position which may be varied with respect to the body of a flag 48 to which it is attached. The flag is attached to the body of a car. Each flag also contacts the bottom member 19 of the slot through a ground contactor 82. A number of cars may run on the same slot, each having its contactor in contact with a different conductor 22. The flag assembly comprises a generally vertically extending terminal post, a ground contactor 82 affixed to said post and electrically connected thereto, an electrical buss affixed to said post and electrically insulated therefrom and a contactor 81 affixed to said buss. The terminal contact pick-up assembly 49 comprises a terminal post socket into which post is inserted, a ground contactor 56 affixed to said post socket and another contactor 57 attached but insulated from said socket. A lane changer for the model car system comprises a transfer slot 104 between adjacent racing slots 16 and means 96 associated with each slot to form a continuous slot from one slot to its adjacent slot. A lap counter is also disclosed.
