Abstract

943,509. Valves. J. L. GRATZMULLER. Sept. 11, 1961 [Sept. 23, 1960], No. 32467/61. Heading F2V. A pressure reducing valve or gas governor comprises a body 15, 25, 26 with a valve member 5 controlling flow between an inlet 1 and outlet 6 of the body and responsive to the outlet pressure by means of a movable member such as a diaphragm 10 or piston, and a labyrinth compelling the fluid to follow a sinuous path of progressively increasing cross-sectional area before reaching the outlet, this labyrinth being constituted by a plurality of cylindrical elements 12, 13, 12<1>, 13<1>, 12<11> disposed coaxially with the valve and radially spaced from each other to provide coaxial cylindrical passages with openings providing intercommunication between mutually adjacent cylindrical passages, such openings being disposed as shown next opposite ends of the cylindrical elements so that the flow takes place alternately in opposite directions. The radial spacing of the elements increases progressively in the radially outward direction. Outlet pressure is communicated to the diaphragm through holes 7 in a partition 14, the other side of the diaphragm being vented at 24 through a restriction.
