In a suspension system for independently mounting the steerable wheels of a motor vehicle, each wheel 15 is mounted on a carrier 13 connected at its lower end by a ball joint 17 to a trailing or leading suspension arm 18 which is pivotally connected to the vehicle structure 10 about an inclined axis lying in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The upper end of the wheel carrier 13 is connected by a ball joint 16 to a transverse leaf spring 11 (Fig. 1), a damped telescopic strut 21 (Fig. 4) or a further pivoted suspension arm, in which case spring means are provided to act between one of the arms and the vehicle structure. The arrangement is said to ensure that the wheel track width varies at a constant rate during up and down movements of the wheels. The inclination of the pivotal axis of the arm 18 may be adjustable and the ball joint 17 may be adjustable both transversely and longitudinally of the vehicle to provide adjustment of the camber and the castor angle of the wheel. The Provisional Specification states that, in the case of non-steerable wheels, the carrier may be connected to an upper suspension arm by a pivot having an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle.
