1449970 Vehicle suspensions DAIMLERBENZ AG 1 Nov 1974 [7 Nov 1973] 47423/74 Addition to 1329070 Heading B7D In a vehicle suspension having for each front wheel 2 a lower suspension link 5 comprising a transverse front arm 12 connected by a resilient pivot 13 to the superstructure 11 of the vehicle and an oblique rear arm 14 connected by a resilient pivot 18 to a transverse member 16 resiliently mounted on the superstructure, the arms 12, 14 are connected by a pivot 15, the pivot 14 is made radially soft to absorb transverse shocks, and the pivot 18 is made hard in the direction of forces along the arm 14 to obtain neutral steering behaviour during braking. A joint ball 19 on the arm 14 is supported in a housing 21 on the member 16 by resilient elements 20 which are hard in the longitudinal direction of the arm 14 but relatively soft in the transverse direction. A line 23 passing through the pivots 13, 18 intersects or passes close to a line joining the points of connection 17 of the member 16 to the superstructure. A wheel carrier 1 is connected by a joint 8 to the lower link 5 and by a joint 7 to an upper link 4 having an inclined oblique pivot axis 24. A track rod 26 connected to a steering arm 25 on the wheel carrier 1 lies on a straight line which intersects a line joining the connection point 8, 13 of the arm 12 outside the wheel plane so that rearward deflection of the wheel under braking forces tends to cause toe-in of the wheel.
