Abstract

943,407. Forging presses. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Aug. 23, 1960 [Aug. 31, 1959], No. 29620/59. Heading B3H. In a press, particularly a forging press, having a member such as a crosshead 12 slidable over a column 11, a guide shoe 14 located between the column and member is supported on the latter by a flexible pad 16. Each press column 11 has four flat surfaces 11a engaged by four shoes 14 fitting into recesses 13b of a segmental sleeve 13 secured in the crosshead 12. The pads 16 which are supported against flat steel backing plates 15 are composed of natural or synthetic rubber or may each comprise a flexible sac filled with a plastic, semi-fluid or fluid substance. Shims 22 may be fitted between the backing plates 15 and the bottoms of the recesses 13b.
