A vibrato device for a guitar comprises a base-plate 28 to be secured to the body of the guitar, a drum 16 having a tail-piece 22 to which the strings may be attached, the drum being mounted for pivotal movement, by manipulation of a lever arm 18, to vary the tension in the strings, and means 20 associated with the lever arm bearing on a spring 26 mounted on the base-plate and capable of withstanding the tension of the guitar strings. The pivoting of the drum may be effected by means of ball-bearings and the tail-piece fastened to the drum by means of a spring clip as shown or by means of a split pin. An extension 31 of the base-plate may carry an adjustable bridge 32 mounted on a plate 34 which can be moved in any direction parallel to the base-plate, by virtue of the clearance spaces 35 through which the screws 36 pass. The bridge may be adjusted as to distance from the base-board by screws 38. The above embodiment is suitable for a solid guitar. For an acoustic guitar the plate 28 may be L-shaped to fit over the reinforcing block normally present in the base of the body, Fig. 1 (not shown).
