942,966. Variable focal length objective. CARL ZEISS-STIFTUNG,[trading as C. ZEISS [Firm of]]. Jan. 8, 1962 [Jan. 7,1961], No. 1911/62. Heading G2J. The objective comprises two collective lens groups A and D enclosing a dispersive lens group B and a dispersive lens C, the focal length being varied by movement of the dispersive lens group B and the image position corresponding to a fixed object being kept stationary by simultaneous movement of the front collective lens group A and the dispersive lens C. Focusing for objects at different distances may be effected by movement of collective lens group D. Preferably, the power of the front surface of lens C is less than that of its rear surface whereas in each of the lens groups A and B the power of the front surface of each component is greater than that of the rear surface of that component. The rear collective lens group D has a dispersive middle component enclosed on each side by two collective components, the front collective'component LVIII including one or more surfaces for reflecting the image into a view-finder. Optical data are given for one example of the objective shown.
