A vario objective comprises a basic objective of four components in front of which is arranged a vario section also comprising four components of which:- (1) The first and fourth components are convergent, (2) the second and third components are divergent menisci having their concave surfaces facing each other and which are movable, (3) the third and fourth components are simple lenses. Three detailed examples are given.
