Abstract

Compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0941692/C2/1> wherein R1, R2 and R3 are C1 - 18 alkylene groups may be prepared by reacting an alkanolamine with an aluminium alkoxide in equimolar quantities and removing the alkyl alcohol formed. Compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0941692/C2/2> wherein R1, R2 and R3 have the above meanings, R4 is a C2- 4 alkylene radical, R5 and R6 are C1- 6 alkylene radicals and Y has an integral value of from 0 to 60 may be prepared by reacting an aluminium alkoxide with an alkoxy alkanol in the stoichiometric quantities and removing the displaced alkanol. Compounds in which Y is zero and R3 is in the upper range of carbon atoms may be prepared by reacting a higher alcohol with a compound of the above formula where R3 is a lower alkyl group and is replaced by the higher alcohol. Compounds in which Y is an integer may be prepared by first oxyalkylating the desired alcohol with up to 60 moles of the alkylene oxide and subsequently reacting the oxyalkylated alcohol with an aluminium compound of the above formula where R3 is a lower alkyl group (and Y is zero) whereby the oxyalkylated alcohol will replace the lower alcohol.ALSO:Antiperspirant compositions comprise a cosmetic carrier and from about 5 to about 40% by weight, one or more compounds of the general formul <FORM:0941692/A5-A6/1> wherein R1, R2 and R3 represent C1-18 alkyl radicals, R4 represents a C2-4 alkyl radical, R5 and R6 represent C1-6 alkyl radicals and Y is an integer from zero to 60. They may be in conventional forms, e.g. aerosols, ointments, powders, creams, lotions and powder sticks which may also contain conventional perfumes, bactericidal and fungicidal ingredients.
