Abstract

Homocysteic acid (a -amino-g -sulphobutyric acid) is prepared by reacting acrolein with NaHSO2 in an aqueous medium, reacting the resulting solution with substances providing cyanide ions, carbonate ions and ammonium ions to form 5-(b -sulphoethyl) hydantoin, hydrolysing and if necessary, acidifying the hydrolysate.
