A jaw crusher for continuous reduction of rock comprises-a frame 20 which carries both a normally stationary jaw 130 and a movable jaw head 55 which carries a jaw member 92 underlying the stationary jaw and, by reason of gyratory means 44 at its lower end and a pivot 65 providing limited vertical and oscillatory movement of its upper end, is adapted to give the jaw member 92 a simultaneous oscillatory and gyratory operating action. The jaw head 55, which is provided with dual jaw members 92, is mounted on an eccentric portion 44 of a drive shaft 40, the shaft being supported in bearings 35 which are secured in the sides of the frame. The pivot 65 of the jaw head is supported at its ends in bearing blocks 72 which are vertically slidable in housings 76; the housings are bolted to the frame and spring-urged sealing plates 87 cover elongated apertures 83 which allow for movement of the pivot. A plate 93 which is bolted to the jaw head secures the jaw members 92 in position. Co-operating stationary jaws 130 are each secured in place on a jaw support 104 by a bolt 134 threaded into a steel insert 132; a soft metal insert 135 and an adjustment-shim 137 are also provided. A hopper for material to be crushed is formed at two sides by cover plates 145 mounted on the jaw support and at the other two sides by vertical extensions 143 of a guard member 141. The jaw support 104 is yieldably held against wear plates 111 by a row of compression springs 115 disposed on each side of the frame; concave bearing surfaces 110, 113 prevent lateral displacement of the jaw support and allow it to tilt to relieve excessive pressures caused by uncrushable objects between the jaws. Lubricating oil to the bearings 35 and eccentric 44 is fed by way of groove 151 and passageways 152-155 and drained by way of a trough 98 and pipes 103 back to a supply tank; oil is also supplied to the bearing blocks 72 by way of grooves 160. Flexible dust guards 85, 102 are provided to protect the bearing surfaces.
