Abstract

941,288. Centrifugal governors AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. July 5,1961 [July 8, 1959], No. 23423/59. Heading G3B. [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A centrifugally loaded pressure relief valve 22 housed in a rotatable body 10 which carries centrifugal weights 15 for loading the valve in accordance with the rotational speed of the body (see Division F2), is adapted for use particularly as a by-pass valve for connection at 23, 24 respectively across the pressure and return lines interconnecting the engine driven pump and the hydraulic driving motor of a hydrostatic transmission gear of a motor car or other powered vehicle. The weights act on a spring 11 of variable rate such that its deflection, owing to the centrifugal force, is proportional to the rotational speed, and the weights also act through a plunger 18 upon a second spring 21 which applies a resulting force to the valve 22. The valve member may be a loose ball. In a modification, the housing 10 is extended beyond the lever arms 14 of the weights 15 to house a third spring which bears upon these arms in opposition to the spring 11. The second or third spring, or both these springs, may be either of constant or variable rate. Specification 941, 289 is referred to.
