Abstract

1284408 Leaf springs SIMMS MOTOR UNITS Ltd 5 Dec 1969 [11 Dec 1968] 58800/68 Heading F2S [Also in Division G3] A variable rate spring 16, loading a governor 14 in a fuel pump 10, is backed by a roller 20 located in a lever 21 which can be rotated by a lever 23 to vary the force exerted by the spring, and a ramp 18, which is pivoted with the spring at 17, has a surface 19 along which the roller moves, the ramp comprising a further surface 24 acted upon by a roller 25 mounted on a stem 26 of a fluid-pressure device 29 to control the angular position of the ramp member 18. In the Figure, the device 29 comprises a piston 28 moved against a spring 30, by a fluid supplied through a conduit 32, conveniently from the lubricant pump of the associated engine. Alternatively a valve can be fitted in the conduit 32, which can be arranged to be operated by the gear selector of a multi-ratio gearbox, to vary the maximum power output of the engine in different gears.
