Abstract

Beryllium bodies are produced by taking electrolytic beryllium containing less than 500 ppm. of aluminium and silicon in aggregate, adjusting the aggregate silicon and aluminium content to 500-200 ppm. and vacuum hot pressing the powder to form bodies having a density in excess of 90% of the theoretical density. The adjustment may be effected by adding the elements or the oxides thereof. According to the second Provisional Specification, the addition of magnesium, silica, iron oxide, alumina, magnesia and lead oxide produces a similar increase in density.
