Abstract

939,583. Glazing. S. DAVIDSON. Feb. 26, 1960 [March 5, 1959], No. 6788/60. Class 20 (3). A spacer separating adjacent panes 17, 18 in a multi-glazed window, is of hollow box-like configuration in cross-section, the inner wall 12 being slit at 14 along its entire length and the edges of the slit being separated, the side walls 13 being recessed along the entire length of the spacer and the width of the inner wall 12 being greater than that of the outer wall 11 and the width of the outer wall 11 being greater than the shortest distance between the two outer recessed surfaces of walls 13 so that when the spacer is in place between the panes as shown, spaces are formed which receive sealing compound 19 and when the assembly is clamped by the bonding strip 21 the inner surfaces of the panes engage the edges 22 and prevent excess compound from being squeezed inwardly of the panes. In an alternative embodiment a cushioning strip is inserted between the edges of the panes and the bonding strip. The recesses may be formed by sides which extend at right angles from the ends of the inner wall 12 for a short distance and then curve concavedly to meet the ends of the outer wall 11.
