Abstract

939,457. Time delay and reset switching systems. NORTHERN ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 14, 1962, No. 22887/62. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] A current responsive device 3 is provided with a time-delayed operation and a rapid reset by a circuit arrangement in which, upon closure of a switch 11, a capacitor 2 is charged through resistors 1, 12 and diode 5 and, after a predetermined time interval controlled by adjustment of the resistor 1, the potential of the circuit point e reaches the value required for operation of the device 3. During closure of the switch 11, the circuit point 14 is positive with respect to the point 13 and hence a transistor 7 is cut off. When the switch 11 is opened the point 14 falls below the potential of point 13 which causes the transistor 7 to conduct and the capacitor 2 to discharge through a resistor 8. At the same time a diode 6 arrests the negative voltage swing due to the inductance of the device control coil 4, the time constant of the circuit including members 4 and 6 being made equal to or greater than that of the circuit including members 2, 7 and 8, so that the diode 5 is reverse biased during the discharge of the timing circuit.
