In a device for mounting on an oscillating platform, such as the deck of a ship, for sighting on a target which it is assumed moves on a rectilinear course at constant velocity, a control stick is moved to initially align the sighting device on the target and in so doing it introduces the integration constants -which are required and thereafter the sighting device automatically follows the target regardless of movements of the ship, the control stick being merely used to introduce slight corrections due to inaccuracies in the equipment or variations in speed and direction of the target. Three gyroscopes are employed to sense movement of the ship about mutually perpendicular axes and these signals are employed to correct the.movements of the sighting device. The Specification formulates equations relating to the required motion of the sighting device and describes diagrammatically equipment for carrying them into practice.
