Abstract
938,459. Jet propulsion plant. SUD-AVIATION SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. June 1, 1962 [June 9, 1961], No. 21283/62. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXXIII] Compressed air or exhaust gas from an engine in a helicopter fuselage is fed through a duct 15 in each blade to a tip jet propulsion unit, where it passes through turbine blading 34 of oppositely-rotating units 31, 32. Fan blades on the units draw air through an inlet 14, which air is discharged rearwardly with the turbine exhaust gases. Units 31, 32, rotate on a fixed shaft 27 supported from duct 16 and nacelle 22 by stator blades 25, 26, 29 and 37. Shrouds 33, 38 with labyrinth seals (not shown) separate the turbine and fan gas flows. In other embodiments, a twostage turbine drives a fan upstream of duct 16, either directly or through reversing gears.
