Abstract

938,031. Spray-producers. REVERTEX Ltd. June 8, 1962 [June 12, 1961], No. 21166/61. Class 69 (3). Two liquids, e.g. different coloured paints, are fed through flexible pipes 21, 22 and ducts 7, 8 into a mixing chamber 6, in a spray nozzle 1, and a gaseous medium, e.g. compressed air, is fed through a flexible pipe 23 and a duct 20 to an annular space enclosed between a deflector 11 and a cap 17. The deflector 11 is flanged at 14 and an air diffuser 16 is mounted in the cap near the nozzle outlet, slitted inwards from its circumference so that, in combination with the flange 14, it imparts motion to the compressed air such that the outlet of the nozzle is surrounded by an annular swirling stream. The liquids pass through a mixing ring 9 which has an 8-shaped aperture and serves to prevent bonding and misting. The mixing chamber 6 and outlet duct 15 are both short whereby, when the liquids impinge on a surface to be sprayed by them, they retain their identity to give a pattern effect of overlapping areas. The sprayed pattern may be varied by changing the mixing ring, as facilitated by a slot 10. The pattern may also be varied by varying the rates of flow of the liquids.
