937,510. Diazotype materials. CHEMISCHE FABRIEK L. VAN DER GUNTEN N.V. Oct. 23, 1961 [Nov. 25, 1960], No. 37891/61. Class 98 (2). A two-component diazotype material comprises a support carrying a layer containing a light-sensitive diazonium compound of formula wherein X is an anion, R 1 and R 2 are alkyl groups with 1-3 carbon atoms and R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen or methyl, a blue azo coupler which is 2,7 dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulphonic acid or 2,3 dihydroxynaphthalene or its 6 sulphonic acid and a yellow azo coupler which is an acetoacetamide less volatile than p-chloroacetoacetanilide. Specified acetoacetamides are o-, m- and p-hydroxy-, o-, m- and p-carboxy", p - ethoxy -, p - bromo -, 2,4,6, - tribromo-, m - carboxy - p - hydroxy - and p - diethylamino - m - chloro - acetoacetanilide'; N - hydroxyethyl -, N - carboxymethyl - and N - dnaphthyl - acetoacetamide ; m - and pacetoacetaminobenzene sulphonic acid; N-acetoacet - and N,N<SP>1</SP> - bis - acetoacet - piperazide; N,N<SP>1</SP> - bis - acetoacet - p - phsnylene diamide, 2 - aeetoacetamidonaphthalene - 8- sulphonic acid, N,N<SP>1</SP> bis acetoaoet-ethylene diamide, N - acetoacet - N,N - diethanol amide and 2 - acetoacetamido - 6 - ethoxybenzothiazole. The volatility of the acetoacetamide is determined by putting the compound in a bottle, the cap of which has a strip soaked in a diazonium compound of great coupling activity, and putting the bottle in an oven at 35‹ C. for 36 hours. The strip is then removed, exposed to ammonia and then to light to decompose the diazonium compound. The density of the yellow shade on the strip, due to coupling of the diazonium compound, is determined by colorimetric or spectrographic methods; the deeper the shade, the more volatile the acetoacetamide.
