Abstract

936,485. Clamps; turn-button fasteners. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. May 26, 1960 [June 6, 1959; April 21, 1960], No. 18658/60. Class 44. A quick-release device for fastening a detachable hard-top or like roof structure on a vehicle comprises two complementary parts adapted to be fixed to the vehicle body and the roof structure, respectively. The Specification refers to the use of four such devices two at each end of the roof, each front device comprising a part fixed to the roof 1, Fig. 2, and consisting of a fixed stud 10 and a pivotally-mounted lever 15 carrying a cam face, and a part fixed to the top edge 4<SP>3</SP> of the windscreen frame consisting of a lug 5 the latter having a hole engageable by the stud 10 when the parts are in locking association. The lever 15 is formed with a V-shaped notch which is engaged by a projection on the underside of the lug 5 to look the device in the closed position. In this position the cam face of the lever engages the said lug underside thus pressing . weather-stripping 3, depending from the roof, against a part 4<SP>2</SP> of the windscreen frame. Each rear fastener comprises a lug 20, Fig. 7, rigid with the roof part 28 whilst a lever 25 having a cam portion 24 is carried by a support 26 fixed to the body 21 of the vehicle. The lever 25 is pivoted on a pin 22 and a bolt 23 carries a centering stud 27, the pin 22 and the bolt 23 being attached to the body 21. In the locking position of this device the lever 25 is held by a boss formed underneath the cam portion 24 and engaging a correspondingly shaped recess in the lug 20. Each of the above devices may be improved by threading a resilient washer on the pivot-pin of the lever and by causing this lever to engage simultaneously two bosses when the lever is in its locking position, one boss on the lug and the other on the support 11, Fig. 2, or 26, Fig. 7. A further front fastening device comprises a lug 101, Fig. 10, secured on the vehicle frame and an assembly of parts attached to the roof and consisting of a locking cam 102 rigid with a control lever, a bolt-forming pin 103 pivotally mounting this cam 102, a support 104 of the cam which carries in addition a centering stud 107 adapted to engage a recess formed in the lug 101, and a nut-forming member 105. A similar arrangement appertaining to a rear fastener is shown in Fig. 11 in which a lug 201 is attached to the detachable roof whilst the assembly of cam 202, bolt-forming pin 203 and cam-support 204 is rigid with the vehicle body.
