Abstract

The invention comprises benzene-sulphonamides of the formula <FORM:0936417/IV(a)/1> wherein X is chlorine or bromine, R is a benzylamino, dibenzylamino, furfurylamino or thenylamino group and salts of these compounds, such as the triethylamine, triethanolamine, dimethylaniline, dicyclohexylamine, ammonium, alkali-metal and alkaline-earth metal (including magnesium) salts. The compounds are prepared by treating a 2 : 4-dihalo-5-sulphamoyl-benzoic acid (obtainable by chlorosulphonating a 2 : 4-dihalo-benzoic acid and reacting the resulting sulphonyl chloride with ammonia) with an amine RH. Pharmaceutical preparations having diuretic and saliuretic activity comprise the above compounds of the invention in admixture or conjunction with a carrier suitable for oral or parenteral administration. The preparations suitably take the form of tablets, dragees, capsules, solutions, suspensions or emulsions.
