Abstract

936,279. Mechanical switches, without quick action. CTS CORPORATION. Dec. 7, 1959, No. 41547/59. Class 38 (5). A wafer switch comprises an annular insulating stator 12 carrying moulded-in tags 16 connected to individual contacts ] 0 or to an annular or part-annular common contact 10c. These fixed contacts are formed by stamping from a metal sheet (Figs. 1 to 4, not shown). A rotor 17 is formed by two complementary moulded sections having hubs 20 which interlock by prong-like portions 24 having hook-shaped ends for snap-in engagement with shoulders in the mating sockets 25. Flanges 21 on hubs 20 form a groove 18 for accommodating one or more integral moving clip contacts 29, 30 (see also Fig. 7) which are loosely retained by bosses 32 so as to be self-aligning with the fixed contacts. The rotor is located in the stator by peripheral rims 22 supported on spokes 23 so as to be just clear of stator 12 and the contacts 10. In another embodiment two stators 12 are stacked as shown (Fig. 8) and the rotor hubs 20 have longer prongs 24 interlocking through a spacer ring 35. The moving contacts are arranged vertically or may have additional longer clips to co-operate with the lower stator contacts 10 (Fig. 11, not shown).
