Abstract
1,141,521. Inert switches. GLOBE UNION Inc. 9 Feb., 1966 [12 Feb., 1965], No. 5585/66. Heading H1N. A rotary wafer switch is provided with a stator 11 having a raised annular portion 11c on which resilient wiper arms 20b are mounted to co-operate with rigid contacts 14 on a rotor 12, the contact areas lying below the level of the raised portion 11c to provide protection against damage in handling the assembly. The arms 20b are preferably secured to less resilient terminal portions 20e which are mounted on the stator by means of short tabs 20c and longer tabs 20d, the latter being staked. As shown, one tab 20d secures two fixed contacts, but the fixed contacts may be circumferentially staggered for mutual insulation and each fixed by its own tab 20d. The rotor comprises two discs 12b and 12c of thermoplastic material secured together by pin-like extensions (13a, Fig. 6, not shown) which are heat-sealed in corresponding bores (13b) to provide an annular groove 12a slidably mating with an annular ridge 11b on the stator 11. Two diametrically opposed bushes 11a serve for mounting the assembly. Rotor contacts 14 are secured by heat-sealing ribs 16 as at 16a. A rivet (18, Fig. 1, nor shown) maybe used to interconnect contacts 14 on opposite sides of a rotor.
