Abstract

1310573 Rotary switches; inductors CTS CORP 10 March 1970 [10 March 1969] 11411/70 Headings H1N and HIT In a multiposition rotary electric switch an annular stator 13, Fig. 4, of insulating material carries a number of individual contact elements 14a and an arcuate common contact 17 all with portions lying on a substantially common radius for engagement by contacts 21b attached to a rotor 22. Additional contacts 14b may also be arranged in the circumferential region of the arcuate contact 17 but lying on a larger radius for engagement by further contacts 21a on the rotor, some of which may engage outer regions of the contacts 14a. The rotor contacts 21a, 21b may be formed from a single flat strip (21), Fig. 6 (not shown), having a multiplicity of 21a, 21b, the unwanted contacts being removed before the desired contacts 21a, 21b are bent at right angles and the strip bent to arcuate form. An arcuate strip may be located in slots of a pair of rotary members 22a assembled together by rivet pins 25 whereby pairs of rotor contacts 21a, 21b, Fig. 2, engage opposite sides of the fixed contacts 14a. A variable inductance is described in which U-shaped inductances 18, Fig. 5, with slots 18a of differing depths to give desired inductance values are arranged in series between the fixed contacts and connected together by U-shaped members 20. Bending of the inductances and varying the lengths of slots 20c also varies the inductance desired between each pair of contacts. Additional inductance coils (not shown) may also be connected across adjacent terminals. The switch assembly may be mounted in housing channels (not shown) engaged by reduced end portions 15a, 16a. An alternative embodiment is described in which the stators have apertured lugs (111), Fig 8 (not shown), for securing rods.
