Abstract

The invention comprises 2-ethyl-3,3-diphenyl-prop-(2)-enyl-amines of the formula (C6,H5)2:C:C(C2H5),CH2NHR, wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl or cycloalkyl (e.g. cyclohexyl) group and acid addition salts thereof; and the preparation of these compounds by reacting a 2-ethyl-3-hydroxy-3,3-diphenyl-propylamine (obtainable by hydrogenating 2-ethyl-3-hydroxy-3,3-diphenyl-propionitrile and if desired alkylating or cycloalkylating) with a dehydrating agent such as gaseous hydrogen chloride. The alkylation or cycloalkylation is suitably effected by reacting the 2-ethyl-3-hydroxy-3,3-diphenyl-propylamine with a carbonyl compound such as cyclohexanone with simultaneous or subsequent reduction, e.g. hydrogenation, of the intermediate 1,3-oxazine compound which may be formed. Pharmaceutical preparations for raising the blood pressure and stimulating the heart, comprise the above compounds, suitably in the form of their salts such as the hydrohalides, sulphates, phosphates, citrates, lactates, maleates, acetates, benzoates and oxalates, together with a pharmaceutical carrier. The preparations are suitably administered by injection in a liquid carrier such as sterile water, saline or oil, topically as a spray or ointment in water, saline, oils or water soluble bases, or orally as tablets.
