Abstract
Catalysts suitable for the production of allyl chloride (see Group IV(b)) comprise lithium chloride or a chloride of a metal of Group II of the Periodic Table, e.g. magnesium, barium or calcium, supported on pumice, and may be prepared by impregnating pumice with a methanolic solution of the metal chloride.ALSO:Allyl chloride is prepared by reacting propylene, hydrogen chloride and oxygen in the presence of LiCl on pumice at above p 400 DEG C. or a chloride of a metal Group II of the Periodic Table on pumice at above 460 DEG C. The temperature preferably does not exceed 520 DEG C. Examples use MgCl2, BaCl2, CaCl2 or LiCl or pumice.
