935,003. Selective printing. NIPPON TELEGRAPH & TELEPHONE PUBLIC CORPORATION. Dec. 7, 1959, No. 41570/59. Class 100 (4). In a high-speed printer for recording the output from a computor and having a plurality of individually operated hammer mechanisms arranged across the width of the paper 22 and arrange to print a number of lines simultaneously, the hammers 19 are driven by pneumatic pressure when printing operation is initiated by an electromagnet. As shown, in Fig. 2, the printer has positive type 23 mounted in a plurality of rows on an endless belt 25 travelling across the back of a paper web 22. A ribbon 21 is placed between the paper and the hammers 19. Each hammer is fixed to a piston 13 having an air conducting tube 14 with an entry aperture 15 and exhaust aperture 16. Air is forced from supply source to tube 12 and when the piston 13 is in rest position air enters aperture 14 to fill chamber 10, 11, 14 so that when a signal is received from the computor an electromagnet 1 is operated. This actuates armature 2, a thread 3, and a latch 5 so that the piston 13 flies to the right to effect hammer impression. Rebound and spring 20 relatch the piston 13, as now the air pressure has ceased, and the air in the tube 14 has exhausted through an aperture 16. Specification 906,148 is referred to.
