Abstract
1406014 Corona charging apparatus INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 12 Feb 1973 [16 March 1972] 6759/73 Addition to 1357866 Heading H1X Apparatus described in the parent Specification for generating an electrostatic image is modified in that the physically separated ion channels are replaced by a slot provided with electrodes 5a1 to 5b7 on its sides to divide the slot electrically into a plurality of ion channels. Gas, e.g. air, under pressure is admitted to the ion chamber 1 through an inlet 2 and is ionized. Chamber 1 communicates with the slot in the print head assembly 4. Electrodes 5a1 to 5a7 spaced along one side of the seat are connected through contacts 65a to 65g and leads 15a to 15g to a character pulsing means. Electrodes 5b1 to 5b7 spaced along the other side of the seat are connected by leads 16a to 16g to a common D.C. supply. Printing is effected by reducing the nett field across a channel to zero to enable the ions to pass to an image receiving surface.
