Abstract

934,841. Railway vehicle undercarriages. NATIONAL CASTINGS CO. Jan. 5, 1962 [Jan. 16, 1961], No. 579/62. Class 103(6). A railway bogie truck includes a side frame 4 Fig. 1, having transversely spaced walls 21, 22 Fig. 4 and an opening 10 for receiving one end of a bolster 12, the side frame 4 having at least one support 54 fixed between the walls 21, 22 in a second opening in communication with the opening 10 and a side frame window 44 and 45 which second opening houses a chock 36, detachably seated on the support 54, and a friction wedge 30 which engages the chock and a side face of the bolster, the wedge being urged by a spring 35 into wedging relationship with the bolster and the chock. As shown in Fig. 4 the bolster has no portions overlapping the side walls 21, 22 in the longitudinal direction of the side frame and is interlocked transversely of the frame by the wedge 30, with slight play. The side frame has a hollow boss 48 through which a prise-bar may be inserted to compress the spring 35 to release the chock from its seat whereby the chock, spring and wedge can thereafter be removed from the side frame window (45) without disturbing the bolster. In another embodiment the wedges are urged downwardly and the springs 35 converge downwardly. In each embodiment, each end of the bolster is supported by springs 14 acting between a spring seat 16 Fig. 1, on the bolster and a spring seat 15 on the lower side frame member 6.
