An auger head is so mounted at one end of or at the opposed ends of the body of a mineralmining machine that the or each auger can be rotated about either a horizontal or a vertical axis as required according to the mining conditions encountered. In the embodiment shown each auger 17 is rotatably mounted in a gear housing 13 that can be rotated by power means through 90 degrees about the horizontal axis 15 of the trunnions by which the housing 13 is mounted in arms 9A, 9B that can be swung by a jack 11 in a vertical plane about the axis 7 at which the arms are secured on the body.
