In a haymaking machine of the rake-wheel type having the rakewheels mounted on cranks for vertical floating movement, the cranks are acted upon by springs which tend to maintain them in a central position. In Fig. I, the cranks 5, 6, 7, 8 are mounted in pairs on frame-members 9, 10, one frame-member 10 being movable to an alternative position (dotted) for swath-turning. The crankshafts of each pair of cranks are extended through bearings on the frame and are attached to enlarged stub-shafts 19, 20 on the far side of the bearings, these stub-shafts having slotted guides 24, Fig. 2, for a composite leaf-spring 28-30 passing through both stub-shafts. The spring has short upper and lower leaves 28, 30 associated with each guide and a central leaf 29 passing through both guides, this leaf having a convoluted portion 31 between the guides to impart extra resilience. To stop deflection of the spring when not required slotted keepers 36 hinged on the frame member 10 so as to be swingable into a position to embrace the spring-leaves. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), a set of resilient rods replaces the spring leaves, and in another modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), a pair of leaf-springs are arranged one above and one below the stubshafts 19, 20. In Fig. 13, each crank 98 has a separate spring- system 103, 105 connected between a standard 100 on the crank and a fixed abutment 102 on the frame; the system comprises two compression springs 103, 105 encircling a rod 101.
