Abstract
Active carbon used for decolourizing is regenerated by contact with an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid, e.g. a solution containing over 70% by weight of sulphuric acid. The carbon also may be washed with aqueous solutions of alkali, e.g. a 2 to 4% solution of caustic soda, or a solution of ammonia or an alkali metal carbonate, before or after washing with sulphuric acid solution. In examples active carbon used to decolourize crude aqueous lactic acid solutions is regenerated with sulphuric acid solution alone and with caustic soda solution. Specification 907,321 is referred to.
