934,471. Servicing reactors. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. June 12, 1962 [June 22, 1961], No. 2255S 62. Class 39 (4). An enclosure 1 of a fuel element charging machine has aligned orifices 8, 9 sealed by plugs 6, 7 when in the dashline position, the plugs being withdrawable to the solid-line position within a compartment 5a of a magazine 5 to permit a grab (not shown) to be lowered through the orifixes upon rotation of the magazine and transfer a fuel element between a further magazine compartment 5b and and the reactor core. The magazine rotation and plug movement are derived from single motor 10 through gear trains 11, 12, respectively, the train 11 including a clutch 13 and a pinion 14 driving a ring gear 15 integral with the magazine. The train 12 drives through a pinion 16 a ring gear 17 freely rotatable on the magazine, internal teeth on the gear 17 driving a pinion 18 fixed to a shaft 19 carried by the magazine. The shaft 19 drives through gearing 30 a screw 20 formed at its ends with threads of opposite pitch co-operating with internally-threaded extensions 21, 22 of the plugs 6, 7. When the clutch 13 is engaged the motor 10 drives the ring gears 15, 17 in an identical manner whereby the magazine 5 may be rotated so that the desired compartment 5b is aligned with the orifices 8, 9, the shaft 19 remaining stationary relatively to the magazine whereby the plugs 6, 7 are not moved. In order to move the plugs the clutch 13 is disengaged so that gear 17 rotates relatively to the gear 15. An indicating device 23 coupled to gear trains 11, 12 shows both the angular position of the drum and the position of the plugs.
