Abstract

934,081. Automatic adjuster for disc brakes. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES, and M. TAUSEND, [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINENUND ARMATURENFABRIK KOMM.-GES.]. July 13, 1961 [July 19, 1960], No. 25395/61. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] An automatic adjusting device for disc brakes having restoring springs 5 for pressure plate 4 wherein a disc 20 having spur toothing 21 is connected by a spring catch disc 23 to spur toothing 22 of part 7 of the brake housing 1, by a longitudinal guide groove to a screwed-in bushing 10 in the brake housing 1 and by a bolt 17 to pressure plate 4, the bolt 17 and bushing 10 being mutually contrarily threaded. Disc 20 is secured to a spline guided member 14 by e.g. a circlip 19. Similar brake systems may be mounted on both sides of the axially fixed, single disc 3. Pivoting of hand brake lever 2 against member 14 clamps pressure plate 4 and friction pad against the disc 3, the rotation of which causes the pressure plate 4 to increase its pressure acting against the disc by roller 13 and inclined recess 12. The spring catch disc 23 comprises a series of opposed spring teeth 24, 25 which, when the brake is released are engaged by and compressed between spur toothed disc 20 and spur toothed member 7. This compression effectively lengthens teeth 24, 25 and effect the rotation of disc 20 and hence the longitudinal movement of screw 17 and its associated members. The automatic adjusting device may be incorporated in a floating hand brake, the fulcrum of the double-armed lever acting against member 14, the other arm of the lever acting through a connecting rod on the caliper arm on the other side of the disc 3.
