Abstract
934,039. Compound paper-board; laminates. REED CORRUGATED CASES Ltd. Nov. 9, 1959 [Nov. 12, 1958], No. 36402/58. Classes 96 and 140. A material of sufficient rigidity to be used to make boxes, cartons or like packages is made from two elongated webs of which one is of paper and the other of paper or like lightweight flexible material, and an intermediate ply of less width but greater rigidity, the webs being adhesively secured together along two spaced narrow strips parallel to their edges to define a pocket to retain the intermediate ply. The intermediate ply may be of single or doublefaced corrugated board, fluted paper, cardboard, plywood or foamed synthetic resin,, e.g. foamed polystyrene, and may be fed between the flexible webs from a roll or be introduced in sheet form at suitably timed intervals. The second flexible web may be of thermoplastic material such as cellulose acetate or polyethylene. The two webs may be secured together by strips of adhesive, or by strips of paper or other strip material adhesively coated on both sides. The two webs may be of different widths. The intermediate ply, e.g. when it is of fluted paper, may be glued to one of the webs, e.g. by providing spaced bars of adhesive across the web. The material may be cut, scored and folded to form packages and blanks therefor. If the intermediate ply comprises separate sheets, these may be cut before laminating to a size and shape suitable for the blanks to be made.
