934,036. Cam mechanisms. GEORGE KENT Ltd. Aug. 17, 1959 [May 16, 1958], No. 15829/58. Class 80 (3). In steering or other mechanism comprising a helically grooved cam 1, Fig. 1, which is engaged successively by two or more followers 5, 6 on a rocker arm 4, the cam is of normal cylindrical form and each follower is axially movable in the rocker arm and is individually urged towards the cam by a spring 9, Fig. 3, acting between a threaded plug 12 in the arm 4 and a cup-shaped pad 11. The spring 9 may be replaced by Belleville washers or a rubber block. The pad 11 co-operates with the plug 12 to limit the axial movement of the follower away from the cam. This limitation may be varied by inserting shims between the pad 12 and the roller bearings 8 supporting the follower. It is stated that the resilient mounting ensures that road shocks are absorbed. In order to determine the axial position of the rocker shaft 3 it is urged away from the cam by Belleville washers 3<SP>1</SP> against an adjusting screw, Fig. 2 (not shown), mounted in the gear housing 2.
