Abstract

1,132,119. Vehicle suspensions. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. 6 April, 1966 [17 April, 1965], No. 15281/66. Heading B7D. [Also in Division F2] A spring unit for vehicle axles comprises a pull-rod 7 which is slidably mounted in bearing bushes 18, 19 in the elongated hub 17 of an intermediate spring washer 16 which is axially slidable in a bearing bush 20 accommodated in an end 5 of a cylindrical casing and which separates a conically-wound friction spring 2 from a number of cup springs 3, or other springs of linear characteristics, the springs 2, 3 being stressable in series between the cylinder end wall 5 and a spring washer 13 by the rod 7 which carries a thrust plate 8 at its inner end, the latter, secured to the rod by a threaded end pin 9, having a collar 12 slidably guided within the bore of the cylinder 1 and a part spherical convex surface which supports a correspondingly shaped concave surface 14 on the spring washer 13. The rod carries a crossplate 22 between a pair of resilient rings 23, 23 which co-operate with the end walls of a stop housing 24 to limit the travel of the spring unit. The plate 22 also engages longitudinal slots 25 in the housing 24 to prevent rotation of the rod 7. In a wheel suspension arrangement a spring unit 1 is pivoted by its lug 4 to a lever 30 which is fixed to a shaft 31 journalled in the vehicle frame and carrying the crank arm 32 of a wheel axle 33. The outer end of the pullrod 7 threadedly receives a nut 35 which is rotatably mounted in a housing 36 pivoted at 38 to the vehicle frame, the wheel axle being adjustable vertically by means of a pinion 37 which engages teeth on the outer surface of the nut 35 and which is rotatably mounted in the housing 36.
