Abstract

933,926. Windscreen cleaners. MICROCELL Ltd. April 7, 1961 [April 13, 1960], No. 13263/60. Class 138 (1). Apparatus for cleaning a vehicle (particularly an aircraft) windscreen 12 includes at least one brush and preferably two cylindrical brushes 28, contained by a trough 13 having its mouth against the windscreen and carried and movable, e.g. rotatable within a support adapted to be moved to and fro over the windscreen and which preferably comprises a trough 13 formed integrally with a tube 14 spigoted on a boss 21 adjustably attached by screws 39 to a rotatable driving stub axle 22 and a perforated pipe 41 for supplying cleaning fluid to the brushes or the windscreen surface. The brush shafts 27 are contra-rotated by a drive means comprising intermeshing gears 29, 31, a shaft 32, bevel gears 35, 38 and a drive shaft 36 journalled in the stub axle 22. The periphery of the trough and the wall 23 carry respectively a rubber blade 18 and a serrated rubber strip 25 in contact with the windscreen. The bristles of at least one of the brushes are, preferably, arranged helically and may be of natural or synthetic material. The cleaning liquid may be a deicing liquid. The brushes 28 may be non- cylindrical and may reciprocate parallel to the windscreen instead of rotating. In further constructions the cleaner may move about other axes of revolution or, alternatively, may reciprocate linearly instead of rotating.
