933,899. Appliances for holding animals. S. C. WASHBOURNE. Dec. 13, 1961 [Dec. 21, 1960], No. 44694/61. Class 81 (2). An appliance for holding an animal comprises a base having an elevated floor, a ramp connected to the floor, a box-like animal-receiving frame hinged to the base, one or more animalsecuring devices mounted in the frame, an arm attached to the frame for tipping it, and a leg attached to the frame for supporting it in the tipped position. As shown, uprights 10 are supported by an axle 11 carrying wheels 12. Bars 13 extending forwardly from axle 11 carry uprights 16 which support horizontal bars 17 fixed to the uprights 10. A floor 18 is laid on the bars 17. The forward end of the bars 13 is provided with a traction coupling, and may be supported by a foldable leg when the appliance is stationary. A ramp 20 hinged to the rear end of floor 18, has a telescopic front portion 21. Rack 20 is supported in the lowered position by a leg 29, and in the raised position by a strut 30 engageable with the axle 11. A ramp is also hinged to the forward end of floor 18. A box-like frame 22 is hinged at one side about a horizontal axis to members rising from one of the bars 17. The other side of frame 22 is in the form of a gate comprising horizontal bars 33 and hinged at its forward end to the frame, the rear end of the gate being releasably secured to the floor 18 by a latch 48, and also releasably secured to the frame by a latch 50. The animal, while standing on floor 18, is held against the hinged side of the frame by a pair of adjustable securing devices 37, 40 carried by the centre bar 33. Frame 22 may be tipped to a horizontal position by means of an arm 53 attached thereto. Frame 22 is connected by a chain 58 to a swinging arm 57 to which is pivoted a rod 56 carrying a counterweight 55 which rests upon the ground where frame 22 is horizontal. A leg 54 pivoted to frame 22 serves to support the latter in its horizontal position. Access to the rear end of the animal is obtained by folding back a hinged section 23 of one of the sides of ramp 20, and by folding upwards a hinged section 20A of the ramp floor.
