Animals, appliances for holding. - Apparatus for holding animals while being slaughtered, of the type comprising a rotatably mounted carrier into which the animal is driven so that its head projects through an opening in the forward end, is characterized by an arrangement of concentric rings 1, 4 of which the inner rings 4 support the carrier 5 to rotate within the stationary outer rings 1, and the sides 14 of the carrier are hinged to the base or floor 6, the top 22 being hinged at the front so that it can be closed down on to the animal's back. The inner rings carry runners 3 to engage the complete circular tracks of the outer rings. The sides of the carrier have racks 15 engaging holes in members 17 which are hinged to the, floor and are secured to the roof 7 by screw fastenings 19. The top 22 carries, and is secured in adjusted position by a rack 23 passing through a hole in the roof. The front 8 of the carrier has guides 11 for a slide controlled by a chain 12 and by a peg 13 adapted to be put into any one of a series of holes in the front. To position a small animal a bar may be passed through any pair of aligned holes arranged in series in the rear portions of the side walls. A foot brake 25 may be provided for bringing the carrier to rest, and means such as pins 27 may be used to lock the rings 1, 4 together in the upright or the inverted position of the carrier.
