Abstract

933,372. Key locks. A. NEIMAN. Jan. 19, 1961 [Jan. 23, 1960], No. 2229/61. Class 44. [Also in Group XXXI] An anti-theft lock device for vehicles comprises a body 1, a key-actuated lock 8 in the body controlling the opening and closing of electrical circuits and the displacement of a spring-loaded bolt 6 associated with a box staple 3 carried by a control member 2, e.g. the steering column of the vehicle through the medium of a follower 9 which extends into an aperture 10 in the bolt, the follower carrying, in the aperture 10, a slide member 11 movable in a direction at right angles to its axis of rotation by the follower, the slide member being formed with cam faces 12, 12<SP>1</SP> for causing its sliding movement by engaging the faces of the aperture 10, the slide member carrying a spring-loaded catch 13 which protrudes from its upper face and which is adapted in one position of the slide member to engage the key tip and hold the bolt against movement. The follower 9 is connected to the lock 8, which is a cylinder lock, so that rotation of the lock from its locking position rotates the follower to retract the bolt by engagement of its face 9a with one face of the aperture 10. The rotation of the follower also causes the slide member to be retracted into the aperture 10. This movement of the slide member causes the spring-loaded catch 13 to be retracted by contact with one side of the tip of the key which protrudes into the follower since the surface 14 of the catch in contact with the key is bevelled. The movement of the slide member moves the catch to the opposite side of the key. When the lock is restored to its locking position the catch 13 cannot move back to its original position since its non-bevelled face engages the key; thus the slide member 11 cannot move back to its original position but remains retracted in the follower and one end by engagement with one face of the bolt aperture 10 holds the bolt in its retracted position. When the key is removed the bolt, under the influence of its spring 22, can move to its locking position. A second spring-loaded catch 15 is also carried by the slide member and this protrudes from the opposite face of the catch 13. The catch 15 engages a V-groove in the housing of the device and prevents movement of the follower 9 except by the key. The electrical circuits are controlled by a switch 21 which is connected to the follower 9. The bolt is in two parts 6a, 6b with a spring 19 between them so that if the key is removed before the box staple hole is aligned with the bolt end, the portion 6a can move to allow the catch 15 to engage the V-groove so that the follower 9 is held in position by the catch 15.
