Abstract

The invention comprises steroid derivatives of the pregnane series having an 11b ,18-epoxy configuration and a formyloxy substituent at the 20b -position and the preparation thereof by subjecting a steroid compound of the pregnane series having an 11b -hydroxy substituent and an 18,20b -configuration to treatment with formic acid. Said starting compound may be obtained by treating an 11-keto-20b -hydroxy-pregnane with lead tetracetate to obtain an 11-keto-18,20b -epoxy compound and reducing the 11-keto group of this compound. Specified products include 11b ,18-epoxy- 20b -formyloxy- 5b -pregnan-3-one and 3a ,20b -diformyloxy-11b ,18-epoxy-5b -pregnane. Specificatio 933,277 is referred to.
