933,185. Centrifugal pumps. KLEIN SCHANZLIN & BECKER A.G. Oct. 2, 1959, No. 33463/59. Class 110 (1). In a multi-stage centrifugal pump the casing clamped between suction and pressure covers is subdivided, by the interposition of one or more sections formed as intermediate clamping pieces engaged by the tie bolts, into a number of axially and independently clamped groups of sections, the housing parts within each group of sections being differently dimensioned to withstand the maximum stage pressure in that group. In the pump shown, the casing comprises cylindrical sections 12 which take the axial thrusts, while outer rings 13 take the radial strains. The sections are divided into two groups A, B, clamped between a rigid intermediate clamping ring 5 and rigid end covers 1, 2 by means of tie bolts 4. A nut 7 is provided on each tie bolt 4 against the intermediate clamping ring 5 so that the clamping force exerted on the high pressure group B can be made greater than that exerted on the lower pressure group A, the diameter of the tie bolts 4 being correspondingly greater over the region of the group B. The use of a lower clamping force on group A than on group B permits the use of thinner walls for the casing sections 12 of group A, the rings 13 also being made thinner. The nuts 7 may be replaced by split rings engaging a groove in each tie bolt 4, the two halves of each ring being held together by a surrounding sleeve. As a further alternative, separate tie bolts may be used for each group.
